Businesses won't have to return BP spill payouts

NEW ORLEANS- BP wanted its money back - hundreds of millions of dollars of it - but a federal judge says the oil giant must stick by an agreement with companies that got payouts after claiming the 2010 Gulf oil spill hurt their business.

Ex BP Executive, David Rainey, Indicted

After months of appeals, David Rainey was indicted by a federal grand jury this weekend on charges of obstructing a congressional investigation into the 2010 BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. David Rainey failed to provide information as to the severity and rate the oil was spilling from the Deepwater Horizon explosion. David Rainey will face a trial March 9, 2015. He has pleaded not guilty.

Judge Rules BP "Grossly Negligent" In Deepwater Horizon Disaster

For the past 4 years, BP has been dancing their way around paying claims to individuals and businesses through the appeals process. Finally after all this time, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled just yesterday that BP was grossly negligent in the Deepwater Horizon disaster which took place on April 20, 2010. Under the U.S. Clean Water Act this ruling exposes BP to additional government fines and penalties which could cost them as much $18 billion.
