Southwest Florida Trial Lawyers Association

The Southwest Florida Trial Lawyers Association held its inaugural meeting on February twenty-third. The group was principally formed to leverage the collective knowledge and resources of trial-experienced attorneys for the betterment of the region's local communities.

The group's first mission is to establish a legal community that could foster an atmosphere that would enable lawyers to better represent their clients through the networking and sharing of case material, legal information, and other resources.

The organization's second area of focus is in strengthening community. Early on, the founders of the Association set their sights on establishing a foundation where a group of lawyers could impact their municipalities through applying existing laws. One topic that was discussed extensively during this initial meeting was the issue of pollution caused by the Lake Okeechobee water releases.

The third area of focus rested on broader political goals for the Southwest Florida region. An element of this goal is for the Association to play an active role in races for political office-including those of our judges.

The association is packed with powerhouse attorneys, including Aloia Roland Lubell & Morgan, PLLC's own Evan Lubell as Vice President and P.J. Scheiner, of the Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, as President. Leland Garvin of Garvin Law has taken on the role of Treasurer and Chris Frohlich as that of Secretary. The group's Board of Directors is made up of esteemed professionals from around the Southwest Florida community. Ty Roland and Amy D'Alessandro are also active members within the organization. Even with this great start, the Association is far from complete and it is actively seeking additional members.

"Essentially what the Association comes down to is this," Mr. Lubell adds, "as a new group we are going to try and do things for the community. We are going to get active in some of the political races and the judge races, and we are [going to be] getting involved with worthwhile organizations and causes, things like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). The group can be influential if we get the right politicians in strengthening laws on matters such as driving while texting or talking on a cell phone."

The group plans to meet on a regular basis. If you would like more information or want to be kept up-to-date on the Southwest Florida Trial Lawyers Association, you can find them on Facebook @ Facebook.com/SWFTLA.
